I have written what I think is a lot about amethyst. I have read about it, posted about it, you get the point. Because it’s my birthstone (and I love it!) I have been wearing it FOR-EV-ER. I would say out of any stone, I have the most pieces that have amethysts in them.
This is another reason I have included it in SO MANY of my GOLD by Green pieces! I love both the purple stone, that everyone thinks of when they hear amethyst, and the green stone that not as many know of. Naturally occurring green quartz is called prasiolite and is rare in nature. When amethyst is heated most of the time it turns yellow or orange but sometimes it turns green depending on what iron compounds it contains. Green amethyst is still considered a natural stone. Prasiolite and green amethyst are considered the same because it’s believed that geological events cause natural heating to the quartz and give it its green color. Seriously, nature blows my mind sometimes.
The point of this blog post. Like I said I have think I know a lot about amethyst. Recently, I was diagnosed with nerve pain and specifically radiculopathy. Who used to watch Royal Pains on TNT? Frank and I watched every season. Hankmed was ridiculously entertaining to us and filled our summer TV schedule while all of the network shows were on summer vacation. Hank would diagnose someone with radiculopathy and we would lose it. What is that? Are you serious? Is that even real??? We joked about it all the time while the show was on. And here we are a few years later and I am not laughing about it. Nerve pain is the worst pain I have EVER dealt with. For a while it put my fibrolmyalgia to shame. Of course until that recently reared it’s ugly head. Nerve pain meds help but also make you really tired and a little foggy. I have never wanted to take meds for the fibro because of all of the side effects but let me tell you not taking meds for this was not an option!
So a few weekends ago Frank was fishing and I made a date with my girlfriend Jodie to hit the new Playa Bowls in Rehoboth. SIDE NOTE if you have not been GO! They have locations all over and it’s not hype it’s for real! SO GOOOOD! I can’t wait to go back! Okay back on track here…. We got our bowls, her middle son and baby were with us (he’s who the Trae Rings are named after!) and we hung out outside at a bench and enjoyed them. The pain I had been having had calmed down but for some reason on this day it started to pop up again. UGH. We mozied on down to Browseabout Books as Jod’ had a gift certificate to use. I walked around trying to not do anything that would cause the little lighting strikes in my leg and looked at all the fun stuff in the store. I don’t really buy books any more (eeek that sounds terrible) as I buy them for my kindle app. I went to the place I always visit when I am in the store which to be honest isn’t much. The metaphysical shelves always have the books on gemstones. I looked at the line up and happened to pick up this little book, The Pocket Book of Stones. I started to flip through it still trying to avoid pain only somewhat successfully. Let me see what it says about amethyst I thought – my go to of course. My eyes almost popped out of my head.
I have NEVER read that amethyst aids in nerve disorders. NEVER. But as I write this I wonder, did I just miss it because I have never dealt with it? I don’t know but either way, the universe had a message for me and I was picking it up! I had to buy this little book. I am still shocked to have seen it. I came home that day and had already cancelled my plans to meet friends at the beach. I thought I needed to rest the nerve in my back causing the leg pain and again the pain meds make me really tired. So I just laid on the couch on the porch with the cats and watched golf. However, before that I went into my jewelry box and found quite a few amethyst pieces and immediately put them on. Just laying around in my jewelry – don’t mind if I do!
Note the “playing” ensuing in the background in the photo below!
I know not everyone believes in healing power of gems or crystals. That is okay. But if you see me wearing a lot of amethyst these days and my grandmother’s cross that is why! I wouldn’t wish nerve pain on my worst enemy so I’ll take all the help I can get! And a little special QT with my fur balls is sometimes the best medicine.
